Following the SXSW premiere of Tracy Droz Tragos’ documentary film PLAN C, join us to celebrate pro-abortion activists & orgs in Texas—despite the injustice being perpetrated by courts and legislators.
Come through for panels presented by Plan C Pills and friends, creative performances curated by Austin-based arts and culture space Future Front Texas, as well as all-day vendors and moments to connect with local orgs.
Together, we'll honor the collective work that led to this film, the movement and how we can meet this moment.
Chulita Vinyl Club (CVC) is an all-vinyl, all-genre DJ collective made up of women, gender-non-conforming, non-binary, LGBTQ+, and self-identifying people of color. CVC launched in 2014 with the context of providing a safe space for empowerment, togetherness & utilizing music and vinyl as a form of resistance against the erasure of culture. The CVC ATX chapter puts an emphasis on individuals of mixed-heritage combining narratives to speak crucially about intersectional identities. Each Chulita has their own unique identity. They are not to be classified as one nationality or culture; they can be brown, black, or white & all shades in between. The unifying denominator is the belief that el disco es cultura. They have established a strong coalition deliberately choosing to only play vinyl with the goal of activating a musical history that might not otherwise be shared in the digital age.
Flora & Fawna broke onto the Austin music scene in mid-2019 with their debut single “Slow Burn”, described as “summoning a deep city groove – rhythmically incessant, icy cool and modern. You can almost hear it echoing through nighttime concrete canyons,” by KUTX’s Jeff McCord. Their self-titled EP followed similarly, combining the catchy pop-centric songwriting of singer Lili Hickman Waldon with the moody grooves and lush production of multi-instrumentalist Mason Ables.
